Dubai Municipality's scheme defines an OHS Practitioner as the person within an establishment responsible for providing competent technical advice on occupational health and safety matters.

Dubai Municipality Requirement: Dubai Municipality requires industries operating in Dubai to employ Certified OHS Practitioners within their organizations.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

Dubai Municipality has established several qualification pathways.

Pathway 01

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Plus an accepted Occupational Health and/or Safety Diploma or specified national/international OHS diploma qualification.

Minimum Experience: 2 Years
Pathway 02

Diploma in Engineering

Plus an accepted Occupational Health and/or Safety Diploma or specified national/international OHS diploma qualification.

Minimum Experience: 5 Years
Pathway 03

Bachelor of Science

Plus an accepted Occupational Health and/or Safety Diploma or specified national/international OHS diploma qualification.

Minimum Experience: 5 Years
Pathway 04

Bachelor's Degree in OHS

Government-approved national or international qualification with a curriculum of approximately 3-4 years.

Minimum Experience: 5 Years

The OHS Practitioner examination evaluates professional competence across six key domain areas established under the Dubai Municipality scheme framework.

OHS management principles, organizational factors, performance monitoring and the management of workplace health and safety.

Hazard identification, risk analysis, risk evaluation and selection of appropriate controls.

Applying safety principles to workplace hazards, equipment, operations and risk-control situations.

PASSING THE OHS PRACTITIONER EXAM

Minimum overall examination score: 60%. Candidates must also achieve at least 50% in critical elements: Risk Management, Application of Safety Concepts, and Health & Safety Regulations.

OHS Practitioner Recertification

LEARN ABOUT RECERTIFICATION

Professional competence does not stop when the certificate is issued. Before the end of the two-year certification period, OHS Practitioners must undergo renewal.

Evidence of continuing competence can include:
  • Continued employment as an OHS Practitioner
  • Professional training
  • Workshops and conferences
  • Involvement with professional organizations or OHS campaigns
  • Other relevant professional-development activities

Note: Where required continuing-competence evidence cannot be demonstrated, the scheme requires the practitioner to take and pass the applicable renewal examination.
